Bangladesh beat Bermuda by seven wickets at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad and qualified for the Super 8 stage of the World Cup. The final hope for India to enter in super '8' washed out with Bangladesh win. Bangladesh had restricted Bermuda to 94-9 on a day of constant rain interruptions. Abdur Razzak took three wickets, while Mashrafe Mortaza and Saqibul Hasan took two each to leave Bermuda reeling. The match began late after heavy rain at the Queen's Park Oval, and several more heavy showers during the day saw the number of overs per side reduced again and again. Finally the 21 over match is decided by the umpires S Davis and I Howell and match Referee A Hurst. Chasing a very small total the Bangladesh lost three early wickets but An unbeaten stand of 59 between Mohammad Ashraful and Saqibul Hasan saw Bangladesh reach their target of 96 with three overs remaining. Under tremendous pressure for a prolonged run-drought, one more failure could have made his life even more difficult but Virender Sehwag claimed he never lost sleep over the slump, for he was sure about regaining his touch. Adjudged "Man of the Match" for his sparkling 114-run knock in the Group B match against Bermuda, Sehwag said all he needed was bit of patience to be back among runs again. Dwayne Leverock knows exactly why he's hitting the headlines these days. The 35-year-old cop from Bermuda has picked up some rather rude names because at 120 kilos he doesn't fit the image of a well-toned, lean athlete. But his attitude is certainly sportsmanlike, considering he issued a rather spirited challenge to India's master blaster before their clash on Monday. India has crushed minnow Bermuda by a massive 257 runs in its second group match of the 2007 World Cup. After batting first and piling on 413, India skittled Bermuda for just 156 with Kumble and Agarkar the chief destroyers both taken 3 wickets each. Sehwag, under severe pressure for his place in the starting line-up after a miserable run of form, hit 17 fours and three sixes from 87 balls faced. India made the highest ever world cup score and also equals the world record of 18 sixes in an inning, Yuvraj Singh hits 7 sixes alone. David Hemp then hit an admirable 76 not out for Bermuda as the last wicket fell in the 44th over. The margin of victory gave India's net run rate a vital boost after their defeat to Bangladesh on Saturday had left them in peril of failing to qualify. Sunday, March 18
